A bit more about some of the bands at V 2009

The Killers’ debut album, Hot Fuss, catapulted the band onto the global stage upon its release in 2004, selling millions of copies around the world. Its follow-up, a love letter of sorts to their hometown of Las Vegas entitled Sam’s Town, was released in 2006 and has so far sold 1.4million copies in the UK alone, winning the band two Brit Awards in the process. The Killers’ third album, Day & Age, was released last November to great acclaim, and has seen the group making a joyous return to the dancefloor with massive singles Human and Spaceman.  These will surely be among the highlights of the festival as the band takes to the stage at this year’s V.

Oasis  - With their latest number 1 album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ and sold out stadium tour confirming their position as the premier rock n roll band in the UK, Oasis come to V on a roll. With a clutch of new anthems to add to old favourites and a live reputation that is second to none this is a special headline slot for V Festival

Razorlight’s debut single ‘Up All Night’ proved to be both a pundit and fan success story. Their debut album followed and sold a million copies. The follow-up, ‘Slipway Fires’ is the kind of album that can only be made in an aftermath. It’s a record about confrontation, heartache and being put to the test and will be sure to engage V fans at this year’s festival.

Snow Patrol - It's worth remembering that Snow Patrol spent the 1990's so broke that at one low point Lightbody had to sell his record collection to pay the rent. Now, 14 years after they started out as a student band at Dundee University, they're still flying, gloriously and unpredictably, by the seat of their pants. This year festival goers will be in for a treat as Snow Patrol take to the stage at V Festival.

Fatboy Slim’s unique musical blend of vaudeville and vodka had the sweat dripping from the ceiling of Brighton’s infamous Boutique. A grinning Fatboy Slim dropped the needle on ‘Santa Cruz’, the record that had kick started the acclaimed Skint record label. Norman Cook has successfully helped take dance music from the clubs, into the living room and to the top of the charts - earning him a unique place in the nation’s heart along the way. Expect to see Fatboy Slim getting the crowd dancing at this years V festival.

Keane - Avowed believers in never retreading old ground, Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley and Richard Hughes returned in 2008 with Perfect Symmetry, a big, bold, shiny pop monster that’s as likely to appeal to hearts and minds as it is to feet. Expect to be thrilled as Keane join the line up for V Festival 2009!

The Specials - Coventry’s finest, The Specials. One of the most important bands in the history of popular music and recognised as one of the greatest live bands the world has ever seen join the V line-up this summer.

Elbow - With the Mercury Music Prize, the BRIT for Best British Band and an NME Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award in their collection from the last six months, Elbow are having the time of their lives. With ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ back in the UK Top 5 and way beyond platinum status, V is thrilled to have this critically acclaimed band to join its line—up.

James - Seasoned V performer James returned with their first studio album in seven years in 2008 with ‘Hey Ma’. The sharp fire sell out on their reformation tour last year of the entire set of dates demonstrated that they remained, at heart, a people’s band.

Lily Allen - Three-time V icon Lily Allen is Britain’s most consistently engaged and engaging pop star. In 2005 she began to post demos on her MySpace page. “Smile” was her first composition and “Alright, Still” eventually sold 2.5 million records., Lily Allen will also be singing hits from her second album, “It’s Not Me, It’s You” It’s a potent combination. It could only be Lily Allen.

The Enemy - With their first album, 2007's We'll Live In And Die In These Towns, The Enemy produced a record with its sense of shared-spirit, crafted anthems that resonated so widely they became embedded in hearts and minds everywhere. This spring sees release of their second album and in the summer, The Enemy join a cracking line up at this year’s V Festival.

Pendulum - Formed during 2002 by three musicians from Western Australia, Pendulum’s mission has always been to pull together their production resources, ideas and influences from various styles of music, to create a new sound that they felt was missing from dance music. This years V Festival looks forward to Pendulum’s bullish beats.

The Script are an Irish trio whose music boasts the kind of artful twists sure to turn all preconceptions on their head. It's got all the emotion and passion you would expect from across the Irish Sea. This summer festival-goers are in for a little bit of Irish soul as The Script hit the stage at V Festival.

Biffy Clyro - Formed in 1999, Biffy Clyro’s released their debut album in 2002.  Their second album ‘The Vertigo of Bliss’ followed in 2003 and was recorded in just one day. In 2007 the band released their first album through 14th Floor Records ‘Puzzle’, marking their transformation into a truly world-beating band. Biffy Clyro have climbed ‘Mountains’ to take to the main stage at V this summer.

The Ting Tings are Jules de Martino and Katie White. They met when she was just out of being a Wigan school-girl and bonded over a shared ambition to rock the foundations of pop music. Together they have configured a sound that represents the pure heart of British pop. Driven by personality, unstoppable momentum, friendship and the love of great pop music. The Ting Tings exist to play live and are welcomed on this year’s bill for V Festival.

MGMT - After setting the internet alight last year with the likes of ‘Kids’ and ‘Electric Feel’, MGMT, the Brooklyn space-rock sonic magicians released their debut album ‘Oracular Spectacular’ which is described as ‘Future 70s’. The brains behind MGMT, have conjured up a musical world where there are no limits, where the whole universe, including V Festival, is theirs as inspiration.

Katy Perry marked her entrance last summer with the anthem "I Kissed A Girl" which instantly established her as the brightest new pop artist to emerge in 2008 and with "Hot n Cold" she proved without a doubt that she is no one hit wonder. Having recently won an award for Best International Female at the prestigious BRIT awards V are delighted she will be joining this year’s line-up.

The Wombats - 2008 was a year of immense success for The Wombats, and it only seems right that they take their place on this year bill for V Festival. The Wombats completed two huge sold-out UK tours in 2008, they were nominated for Best UK Act at the MTV Europe Awards in November. Brand new single ‘My Circuitboard City’ will be released this month and they are on their second album.

Peter Doherty - Vilified by the world’s press and written off at every turn, Peter Doherty finds himself constantly at the centre of a media maelstrom, a frenzy that bombards his private life with allegations, accusations, invasions and intrusions. With the release of a new album in March, Peter has laid himself bare. This summer V Festival fans will get a taste of the new Peter Doherty as he takes to the stage.

The Streets  - The first time people heard The Streets’ Mercury Prize-nominated debut Original Pirate Material, they couldn’t make their minds up whether the person making this music was black or white, from London or the Midlands, deadly serious or a total joker. The fourth Streets album is called Everything is Borrowed and this summer Skinner and friends are set bring these hits to life on stage at this year’s V Festival.

Seasick Steve  - Sparked into life after a staggering appearance on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny, Seasick Steve’s breakthrough album ‘Dog House Music’ passed 100,000 sales. Seasick Steve won a 2007 Mojo Award for Best Breakthrough Act in 2007 and he became the oldest Brit Award nominee in history when he was named in contention for this year’s International Male Solo Artist award.

The Ocean Colour Scene story should already be the stuff of legend; a rip-roaring rock’n’folk odyssey set to a backdrop of fifteen years of U.K pop culture at its very best. Throw in eleven top twenty singles, the fact they supplied the soundtrack to the best scene in Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and hundreds of righteous gigs and they could be forgiven for resting on their (tailored) laurels. Ocean Colour Scene will be making a much-welcomed return at this year’s V Festival.
