Connan And The Mockasins - A huge talent - an inspired and inspiring live act! 
 Just when you think you've seen it all and that there's little left that could really knock you off kilter - along comes something so utterly new, unique and exciting you just know that the music world is about to be a little bit stirred and shaken up.
This band is, without doubt, most exciting and vibrant live act we've seen in a very, very long time.
It's not often that we get rooted to the spot in complete amazement - but when we stumbled upon Connan And The Mockasins that's exactly what happened and we certainly weren't going to budge until the last note had faded - and even then we stood there with our mouths open wondering if we'd just seen and heard what we thought we had! These guys are so totally mesmerising and fascinating that we couldn't quite understand why we hadn't come across them before. Where have they been hiding?
This band has that indefinable quality that literally takes your breath away - just when you expect little you get a whole lot of - well, what do you get exactly? The thing about Connan And The Mockasins is that you have to expect the unexpected - because that's just what you'll get - you will be surprised, you will be taken aback - but you will not be disappointed! prepare to fall big time for this hugely talented bunch of musicians
Connan and The Mockasins are like a breath of fresh air in the music world , and they are not like any other band you will have come across because they are different - they don't follow the norm - they're not mainstream in a conventional sense - and they defy attempts to categorise their music because it's quite original in both its style and delivery.
 Okay - at times you think you get it - Connan has the look of the late great Brian Jones - the voice of an angel on helium - or the devil on coke - or however else he chooses to use his amazing vocal abilities - that voice is something else altogether! The music produced by these guys has elements of Frank Zappa, The Pixies, Captain Beefheart, Jimi Hendrix - a whole lotta pychadelia, some funky pop and bits of 60's inspired prog rock - oh and a bit of Tyrannosaurus Rex before they became TRex! All these elements combine and produce sounds that are quite stunning - eclectic yet with a genre all its own. It's different, it's experimental - but its never, ever boring and we reckon that no two performances will ever be the same - these guys defy any kind of label or category. These are classically trained jazz musicians and they know a thing or two about their music - but don't run away with the ideas that you'll get 'mmmm... jazz...nice' with Connan And The Mockasins, nope, you're going to get something else altogether - and you're not going to be able to pinpoint exactly what it is - other than you'll go away going 'WOW' - we know that because it wasn't just us who were bowled over by this awesome band - we saw the reaction of others who hadn't come across them before - and people were gobsmacked.
Connan And The Mockasins orginate from New Zealand - and lucky enough for us they kind of drifted over to the UK where they've been residing off and on (well - more on than off) for the past couple of years. These guys are so into their music that they perform with a full on set whether they have a crowd of just five or whether there are five hundred or five thousand - the mark of true musicians.
Utterly captivating and compelling Connan And The Mockasins have what every major band needs - a front man who has that certain charisma only given to a few - you find yourself unable to take your eyes off him - it's that unquantifiable quality that marks someone apart from the crowd and shrieks 'star quality'. This is a band that you need to se live in order to fully appreciate what's going on here - that indefinable magic manifests at its strongest during the live performance - that's where its at.
 Although Connan And The Mockasins are a three piece outfit - sometimes they are joined on stage by Lucy and Gavin - and yet another kind of magic is created - the connection and chemistry between Connan and Lucy adds yet another totally new dimension to the band and enhances and already exceptional bunch of musicians taking it to another level - just when you thought it couldn't get any better you discover that the multi faceted band in front of you has unique hidden depths. The vocals these two produce together have an ethereal quality - it's one of those combinations that's both rare and hauntingly spine tingling.
Connan And The Mockasins are special - very special - with an engaging quality that just doesn't come along very often, if you like surprises go and check them out - they need to be seen live - hell - to be honest they need to be seen - once seen they will most certainly not be forgotten.
