Magic Of Motown
19 Apr to 18th October 2009

How times have changed...When Motown’s star performers first toured the UK in 1965, only a handful of music fans came to see Diana Ross and the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Martha Reeves as their Revue show travelled the country. The Motown Revue is reported to have attracted dismal attendances as it played a succession of ABC, Odeon and Gaumont theatres.

Today, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the legendary label, the Magic of Motown tribute concert show has been retracing the original artistes steps, and selling out theatres across the country as it goes!

“It’s been incredible, we began the tour earlier in the year with a sell-out show at the 2,000-plus capacity Mayflower, Southampton, and the Magic of Motown has packed out every theatre we’ve visited. With the show visiting up to 200 towns and cities spread out between Aberdeen and Brighton, it’s safe to say there’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide to keep you away from enjoying the Magic of Motown in 2009!”
Show producer Michael Taylor

The distinctive Motown sound was created by Berry Gordy Jnr. He created Tamla Records in 1959 and, subsequently the same year, Motown.

It was not just the music that set Berry’s signings apart from all other hit singers of the time. For mass market appeal, artistes’ images were carefully controlled from dress and choreography, right down to their manners.

The Magic of Motown brings to life million-selling hit song following million-selling hit song in one spectacular Queen’s Award-nominated stage show celebrating the world’s most popular record label.

“Starring fabulous five-part male harmonies, stunning three-piece female vocals and the supremely-talented Magic of Motown band, the fast-moving production honours the Motown legends that brought the world to its dancing feet, with dazzling costume changes and superb choreography the Magic of Motown leaves all other Motown shows standing in its shadow, celebrating 50 years since Berry Gordy Jnr created the Tamla record label, you’ll be dancing in the aisles and screaming for more – of the Magic of Motown."
