Shockwaves NME Awards Shows 2010 - The Best In Cutting Edge Live Music?
2-23rd February 2010

The explosive Shockwaves NME Awards Shows will kick off in 2010 with amazing line up’s featuring the best in cutting edge music. Headlined by Hadouken!, Simian Moblie Disco, Miike Snow, New Young Pony Club, Girls and Yeasayer, these shows will be the front line of exciting new music to hit the capital  from Tuesday 2nd February.

This stellar line-up will act as a warm-up to the legendary and definitive Shockwaves NME Awards taking place on 24th February at the iconic O2 Academy Brixton. Taking over London’s finest music venues, the Shows will arrive with a bang, whipping up a buzz of anticipation and energy, leaving the city in a whirlwind of festival atmosphere.

Heading up the Shows and bringing the eagerly awaited line-up to life is new NME Editor Krissi Murison. Krissi says of the Shows: “All of these bands are poised to have amazing 2010’s so this is a really exciting start to our annual take-over of the capital. Expect lots more great names announced soon too!”

NME favourites Hadouken! are poised to let their indie grime do the talking at Scala on 3rd February as they open the series of shows . Following the recent release of their new single, Turn The Lights Out, the band will bring plenty of attitude – kicking off the event in rioting NME style.

After bursting onto the UK scene with their single ‘Animal’, big things are expected from Swedish band Miike Snow in 2010. On Tuesday 2nd February the band will bring their synthesized pop to the capital, playing Scala as part of the Shockwaves NME Awards Shows.

Simian Mobile Disco are truly dominating the music scene at the moment so NME have enlisted them to curate a night of the best in stylized music on Saturday 20th February. Playing live, and curating two rooms in Matter at the O2, Simian Mobile Disco have Green Velvet, DJ Pierre, Retrograde Live, Ralph Lawson playing Room 1, with Boy 8-Bit, Joker, Joy Orbison, Mowgli and JoJo DeFreq hyping Room 2.

The five piece London electro band New Young Pony Club will excite the Islington Academy crowd on Monday 22nd February with their post-punk and new wave sounds. Bringing a barrel of eclectic influences to Shockwaves NME Awards Shows this band is guaranteed not to disappoint.

The South Franciscan, quirky indie underground band Girls will play Scala on Tuesday 23rd February, bringing their raw Elvis Costello-like melodies to London. Their debut album wittily named, Album, has resulted in the band being widely tipped for success in 2010.

Experimental Brooklyn band Yeasayer will play Heaven on Tuesday 23rd February. Self-described as “Middle Eastern-psych-pop-snap-gospel”, the band are set to win an army of new fans after their Shockwaves NME Awards Shows performance.

Each year the Shockwaves NME Awards Shows showcase the hottest in established and emerging new acts - with Kings of Leon, The Gossip and The Maccabees all having played these legendary gigs.  Next year will be no exception as venues across London including Scala, Heaven and Matter prepare the capital for THE highlight of the awards season.
