World-renowned as an outstanding year-round performance centre, Aldeburgh is also a place where artists at all stages of their career can be inspired and energized. With inspirational scenery, a rich musical heritage and the time and space for musicians and audience to discover, create and explore, Aldeburgh is the place to help artists reach their full potential and define their own musical landscape.
The Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts offers an eclectic mix of concerts, operas, masterclasses, films and open air performances at different venues in the Aldeburgh/Snape area in Suffolk. Involved with the event are BBC Radio 3 and the Arts Council England.
Highlights of 2015 include:
- World premiere of new chamber opera The Cure by Harrison Birtwistle, performed in a double bill with his 2009 Aldeburgh commission, The Corridor.
- Ensembles in residence: Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Quator Mosaiques.
- Pierre-Laurent Aimard in recital and as chamber musician with Isabell Faust, Jean-Guihen Queyras and Kari Krikku.
- Oliver Knussen conducts Britten-Pears Orchestra.
