All Tomorrow’s Parties have announced that for ATP weekend 1 in May 2009 the fans themselves get a chance to curate half the line-up in, “The Fans Strike Back”.
The event, which will take place from the 8th – 10th May at Butlins Holiday Resort will see half of the festival line-up chosen by ATP and the other half voted for by everyone that buys a ticket.
To make things even more interesting ATP organisers have also decided that at least for the first round of voting, which opens on November 17th, no bands can be picked that have ever played a UK ATP event before!
To kick things off the first bands chosen by ATP are Devo, Sleep (performing Holy Mountain / selections from Dopesmoker + more) Spiritualized (full band, not Acoustic Mainline which HAVE played before) and Grails.
Devo are one of the most important and successful post-punk bands and make a rare UK festival appearance for ATP. Legendary stoner rock band Sleep split up in 1998 after releasing two hugely influential albums. Members went on to form underground heroes High On Fire and Om. They reform for two performances at ATP as a world exclusive that will never be repeated.
The venue itself which is Butlins in Minehead looks out across a superb sandy beach. The site is equipped with a supermarket, newsagent, cash points and restaurants. Onsite facilities include a cinema, Splash Water World - a sub-tropical environment that has a huge wave pool, a swimming pool, 3 flumes and also a flume based raft ride - Ten-pin bowling and amusement arcade. Sports include Archery, Football, Basketball, Darts, Petanque, Fencing, Kwik Cricket, Netball, Rounders, Table Tennis, Outdoor Bowls and Crazy Golf.
