Midlands biggest and best FREE festival, Godiva will once again bring Coventry to life this July - the Godiva festival attracts around 70 000 festival goers over the three day period and combining tradition with originality, the three day festival is set to go off with a bang once again this year as it hosts the ancient carnival procession alongside an array of awe inspiring musical acts and a host of family entertainment.
Since 1998 the festival has been held in Memorial Park, Coventry, although the beginnings were planted as far back as 1190 when monks cast from Coventry Priory told the story of their benefactress, Lady Godiva.
The first recorded Godiva Procession, originally known as the Great Fair, took place on 31 May 1678 and has undergone many variations through the centuries. In some years, over 200,000 spectators have lined the streets of Coventry to witnesses the mass of colour.
Hundreds of dancers, musicians and performers will be adorned in colourful costumes and parade on spectacular wooden floats, which will weave their way through the city centre on Saturday, an extravaganza which has taken place for over 300 years.
An explosion of musical talent, both local and international, hits the stages of the Godiva Festival over the course of the weekend, offering something for all tastes.
With an array of rock, pop, hip hop and acoustic artists, orchestras, comedy acts, a human circus and sublime entertainment, it is not hard to see why the Godiva Festival attracts so many visitors each year.
