The Manchester Jazz Festival was founded in 1996 by a group of musicians who wanted to hear and play interesting, innovative contemporary jazz - somewhere outside of London.
The ethos of the festival is to put the talented players of the northwest on the same footing as national and international jazz artists.
From a one day jazz showcase, the manchester jazz festival has grown into a week long celebration of live music, new work, one-offs, special projects, first times, old favourites, unique personalities, Manchester and, of course, jazz.
Manchester Jazz Festival takes place at various venues including : Band on the Wall, Bridgewater Hall, Festival Pavilion in Albert Square, Matt & Phred's Jazz Club, Midland Hotel, Royal Northern College of Music and St Ann's Church.
