All about Retrofest
Retrofest, the amazing retro pop and disco music festival is back for its second year. The two day live music extravaganza, featuring Paul Young, Kim Wilde, The Bangles and Boy George to name but a few, is set to take place on 30th and 31st August 2008.
Over 15,000 lovers of the best 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music will make the pilgrimage to Retrofest this year, which will take place at Strathclyde Country Park, Lanarkshire, Scotland, ML1 3RT - the most visited country park in the UK.
For many, this annual festival, created by 80’s pop devotee Bradley Snelling, is the ultimate celebration of everything great about Britpop; from the music and the hair do’s, to the movies, the fashion and the personalities. For this reason, this year’s Retrofest is introducing entirely new tents and stages catering purely to nostalgia; including a Retro Ritz Cinema, which will play all the top 80’s movies from Footloose to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and a Retro Rest Haven offering ‘Re-Re-Reflexology’ complete with all the luxurious trappings of a Duran Duran video.
For this one you'll be needing to consider sorting out your ripped jeans, rolling up all jacket sleeves , wearing a shell suit, head bands will most certainly be needed, day-glo clothing , deely boppers are, of course essential , so come on - dust down those Leg Warmers, get out the Glitter, revive that mullet!, bring your space hopper - for one glorious weekend the return of the 80's - big, big hair will be needed and tons of hair spray! How much fun is this one going to be?
Retrofest 2008 is proud to present some of the most enduring pop icons of the 20th century, all performing live to a crowd of 15,000 on the Retrofest main stage on August 30th and 31st 2008.
There's some rather cool stuff going on here and rather a lot to be doing including:
Party on at the Retrofest Main Stage - upon which the top 80’s pop and rock bands will play to an audience of 15,000!
Go glam - at the Retrofest 80’s nightclub; decked out in true ‘Reflex’ style
Experience - a little Saturday Night Fever at the Retrofest 70’s Glitz Ball Disco; (a disco tent full of 80’s coloured lights and flashing floors – a true John Travolta tribute if ever there was one)
Get Footloose - in The Retro Ritz Cinema: a giant big top tent (imagine a circus tent) with tiered seating and red velvet 80’s cinema drapes which can hold 750 people at a time. 80’s movies will play at allocated time slots, including The Breakfast Club, Footloose, Ghost, Grease, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Back To The Future, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off….and there will be a bar serving Babychams, Gin and Tonics and other delectable drinks..look out for Joan Collins and Leonard Rossiter lookalikes…
Trip the light - (and the rather quiet) fandango at ‘Headphone Disco’ (a retro version of ‘Silent Disco’, to a soundtrack of pure retro pop)
Spot talent - at The ‘Tomorrow’s World’ Stage; (featuring up and coming live bands). This stage is the UK’s first ever solar powered, environmentally responsible stage. Everything from sound to lighting is entirely powered from solar energy. There will be no carbon emissions from this stage
Chill out - at The Retro Rest Holistic Haven; two giant tipis, kitted out as a spa offering massages and a special 80’s form of ‘Re-Re-Reflexology’, complete with roaring log fire and incense
Keep it real - at The Retrofest late night acoustic tent; featuring unplugged 80’s and 90’s pop acts from the main stage for a chilled out end to the evening. This will hold 300, and be a really exclusive, first come first served experience
