This event has been cancelled due to the weather conditions
Stamford Town Council have had to call off Riverside Festival 2012 at the last minute due to safety concerns following the heavy rain overnight on 5 July. The site is suffering from flooding in various places, including within the St John Ambulance marquee, and if it continues to rain there is a danger that the rivers surrounding the Festival site might overflow.
Vehicles cannot currently use the site, which is waterlogged, which means that the organisers cannot continue with preparations for the Festival, and have reluctantly had to call off the entire Festival.
We are currently in the process of contacting all of the performers and contractors involved in putting together the Festival, and we would appreciate your help in spreading the word.
If you have purchased tickets for the event, please contact us / Stamford Arts Centre in order to arrange for a full refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the Festival.
Stamford Riverside Festival is a fun, value for money day out for the whole family and aims to offer something for audiences of all ages. The event is run on a not for profit basis and any proceeds from the event are used to support the work of the Riverside Association of Music & Arts and other local charities.Riverside is an open-air music and arts traditionally held annually on the first Saturday of July, on the meadows a beautiful site nestled in the centre of the historic market town of Stamford.Showcasing at least 30 bands and artists, usually more, who are drawn mostly from the surrounding area. The festivals ethos is to provide a platform for mostly local bands with a smattering of guest artists from around the country, who play mainly original music rather than covers of other artists work. The event features 4 stages of live music – The Riverside Stage, Marquee Stage, Boomerang Stage and Buskers Stage. But the Riverside Festival is not just about music. There are fairground rides; a variety of children's entertainment; arts workshops; storytelling; poetry; food, craft and market stalls; Stamford’s most popular real ale and cider festival; and a spectacular fireworks finale. For 2012 Riverside is returning to the Meadows and will take place on Saturday 7th July from 12 noon – 22.40pmFor over 10 years the festival has been run under the Riverside Festival name, and in 2007 the organisation behind the event was registered as a not-for-profit Limited Company and Registered Charity. The Riverside Festival can trace it’s history back to the early 1980’s when it formed part of the annual Stamford Festival and operated under a variety of names including Rock on the Rec and then Music on the Meadows.
