The Knockengorroch World Ceilidh Music Festival will take place from 22-24 May 2009 at Knockengorroch Farm. With dance head toppers who need no introduction - The Orb and drum and bass legend Roni Size - the four day festival also brings great music of the world to the far flung Galloway valley with virtuoso Slovenian folk, Afro blues, fresh Scottish reels, Chilean folk, beatboxing, German digital dub-step, instrumental orgy Balkanarama and renowned comedians Phil Kay and Phil Nichol in Knockengorroch’s own comedy club!
In addition to the musical line-up there will be cabaret, comedy, cocktails, real ale, global food, stalls, camping, dance, heritage and arts workshops, fire shows, a healing area, session villages, open fires, star gazing and more..
‘we’re inviting all who love the dynamic ambience of the World Ceilidh to kick off their winter blues, forget the recession, and join us in the embracing hills of fairest Gallowa’ We’ve kept ticket prices deliberately low this year so that more people can join us for Knockengorroch’s very own lovingly home-grown fun!’
Festival Director Liz Holmes
The landscape will play an important part in the festivities, with every part of the festival reflecting the social history of the once densely populated valley. The main stage, the Bo Airigh, is named after the sacred cattle that were once worshipped in the valley, the Shieling dance tent is another reference to the land’s prior use and the Celtic longhouse, once a common site in the hills, is revived again with rousing fiddles, sitar and kora. The festival aims to celebrate the commonality of roots music and bring the people back to the land!
The event aims to cater for all with a children’s area, family and disabled camping and special family rates on tickets. A bus will run from Glasgow and Edinburgh to the site on Thursday, avoiding the need to drive. Tickets are available from the box office 01644 460 662 or the website www.knockengorroch.org.uk
