Sandi Thom, Kate Rusby and Pierre Bensusan confirmed for May Fest
Latest addition for May Fest Acoustic Festival of BritainSandi Thom, Kate Rusby and Pierre Bensusan (USA 2008 Guitar Player Magazine Readers Choice Award) are amongst the latest additions to the line up for this years festival.
Sandi Thom, having topped the charts in seven countries with her first single, the infamous internet hit ‘I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker’, and shifting a million copies of the ensuing LP is officially the 47th biggest selling female of the 21st century. Late in 2009, Sandi was invited to tour the UK and Europe by new blues powerhouse Joe Bonamassa and the result is "Merchants And Thieves", a new album set for release in May 2010, that highlights Sandi's ability to diversify and explore deeper and more organic musical roots.
Kate Rusby is a gorgeous singer, understated yet deeply emotional. She was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize and voted best live act at the 2006 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Her cover of The Kinks' "The Village Green Preservation Society" was used as the theme tune to the BBC One television sitcom Jam & Jerusalem. she has headlined various British national folk festivals, and is regarded as one of the most famous English folk singers of contemporary times. In 2001 The Guardian described her as "a superstar of the British acoustic scene", and in 2007 the BBC website described her as "The first lady of young folkies".
French-Algerian born Pierre Bensusan is one of the world's finest acoustic guitarists, effortlessly moving from classical to jazz to ethnic. He was voted "Best World Music Guitar Player in 2008" by Guitar Player Magazine Readers Choice. His name became synonymous with contemporary acoustic guitar genius, long before the terms New Age, New Acoustic Music or World Music were invented. He has the ability to make a single guitar sound like an entire band as he brings the audience on a mesmerising musical journey. And yet, Bensusan is more than what any musician or music lover expects from a guitarist. He is a composer as well as a bilingual and a brave improvisational vocalist, melding whistles and resonant low notes with something like his own scat technique.
