Electric Elephant announce Derrick Carter, Kyle Hall, Bok Bok and much more
Croatia's newly expanded festival makes it first line up announcement
Electric Elephant moves from its late summer slot to mid-July for 2011 and it's now been expanded to a five-day, five-night event that blurs the boundaries between festival and holiday. The line-up is taking shape, and the first of the stellar bunch of DJs and artists have been confirmed.
Heading an unbeatable DJ line-up is Chicago’s house legend Derrick Carter. He’s joined by Detroit hotshot Kyle Hall, Bok Bok head honcho one of the UK’s hottest labels Night Slugs, party starters The Glimmers & Horse Meat Disco plus underground house hero Luke Solomon and hosts The Unabombers
Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston’s A Love From Outer Space emerges from the basement vibes of London’s The Drop into the Adriatic sunshine bringing their eclectic mix of dub, proto-house, post-punk, Krautrock, disco, rock'n'roll and electronic oddities to both land and sea!
Other clubs upping sticks for the occasion include Glasgow’s finest Melting Pot with Simon Cordiner and Andrew Pirie. Seb Chew and Leo Greenslade will be bringing their West London weekly YoYo night on holiday with a bulging suitcase of hip hop, dubstep, garage/grime, house and bassline-heavy music. Lowlife bring the good times with Bill Brewster, Michael Cook, Benoit Raymond and Mark Treadwell. Kelvin Andrews & Balearic Mike bring their Down To The Sea & Back to life in the Adriatic too.
Representing Electric Elephant’s Mancunian roots are The Warehouse Project’s Krysko and Tramp’s Will TRAMP!, while Dom Servini (Wah Wah 45's) Nathan Gregory Wilkins (History Clock) Capracara (DFA/Soul Jazz) and Fabrizio (Clap Rules) complete the DJ line-up as it stands, with many more to be added soon.
On the live front – because this festival is more than a fiesta of amazing DJ talent – there is Stones Throw’s finest purveyor of the fresh beat James Pants plus DJ/singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist and Giles Peterson signing Ben Westbeech. There’s also Manchester’s Star Slinger – a man who’s been garnering J Dilla comparisons for his cut-up R&B tunes plus Italian disco-house party-starters Clap Rules.
Add to all of this 10 Boat Parties this year hosted by the likes of Andrew Wetherall & Sean Johnston, Yo Yo, Kelvin Andrews & Balearic Mike alongside the annual cruises from Electric Chair and Lowlife, the line-up is coming together nicely.
