Jamie Smith’s Mabon release 'Windblown'

You can catch the band on tour now

Jamie Smith’s Mabon, known for their blistering live act and accordion maestro Smith’s outstanding InterCeltic tunes, add songs to their excitingly upbeat repertoire in this dynamic new studio album.

Whipping up a storm, the crisp new 10-track Windblown is released on Monday October 29, toasting the autumn season and sun-waning days of the equinox and celebrating the Welsh band’s own Pagan festival name.

Following on from the acclaimed Live at the Grand Pavilion (Best Instrumental Album, 2011 Spiral Awards), this is a “coming of age” release from a prodigiously talented young line-up - a vivid tapestry of seasonal sound, crackling like an autumn bonfire, blazing like autumn leaves.

JSM, described by The Independent as “a mighty instrumental force” now unveil original harmony-rich songs with Smith taking the lead vocal - four tracks including the tongue-in-cheek Yes We Sing Now, the temptation-fuelled fantasy Lady of the Woods, the poignant and timely Summer’s Lament and the huge, filmic stand out track Caru Pum Merch (Loving Five Girls) – their first Welsh language song.

The surprise songs weave seamlessly with Smith's familiar, exuberant tune-writing -wistful slow burners, escalating into an orchestrated riot of sound featuring the copious talents of fiddler Oli Wilson-Dickson, Adam Rhodes on bouzouki , Bristol’s inventive bassist Matt “The Hat “ Downer and the irrepressible Iolo Whelan on drums.

The album ends with two epic numbers – the stunning Caru Pum Merch (Loving Five Girls) with lyrics by Whelan, telling the tale of loving the same woman at five stages of her life. The slow haunting number is mesmeric and in complete contrast to the break-out tour de force finale of Whiskey Burp Reels.

Windblown will be showcased on an autumn UK tour (October 18-December 5). Starting at Cornwall’s Lowender Peran Festival the tour takes in other English dates in Stroud, Praa Sands (Penzance), Exeter, Worcester, Bristol, Fareham , New Milton and Hereford as well as appearances at The Sage, Gateshead (double header with Breabach) and a capital performance at London’s Slaughtered Lamb. (November 7).

In Wales there will be a special album launch concert at Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre (November 4) and further shows at Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog and Narberth.
