Ticket buyers are only being offered a percentage of their ticket money back as 'compensation'

Lionel Richie was due to perform his first UK concert for 3 years at Newbury Racecourse tonight (22/9/12)

PR and promoters made a very big deal of this event tempting fans with a day at the races as well as a concert from Lionel Ritchie. Clearly this would attract fans who have no interest in the racing but wanted the opportunity to see Lionel Richie.

His management have said that
"Lionel is extremely disappointed that he has had to cancel his appearance at The Racecourse Newbury tomorrow. He has been looking forward to his visit and performing at this unique venue."

For all the disappointed Lionel Richie fans Newbury Racecourse have only offered them a  15 compensation automatically if payment was made by credit or debit card. So fans of Lionel Richie who are not race fans will not get full refund.

A notice on the Newbury Racecourse Website reads:
Free Raceday Tickets

Newbury shares your disapointment in the cancellation of this concert.  We would like to offer all ticketholders a free ticket for racing on Saturday 29 December.  To request your free raceday ticket please email your request via info@racecoursenewbury.co.uk

With great disappointment, Lionel Richie has been forced to cancel his performance tomorrow as part of the raceday at The Racecourse Newbury, on the advice of doctors.

A statement from Lionel’s management company released at 7.30 p.m. this evening (Friday) explained that the international star visited doctors today and needs to respond to treatment. He is expected to make an excellent recovery in the next few days.

The statement from his management reads, “Lionel is extremely disappointed that he has had to cancel his appearance at The Racecourse Newbury tomorrow. He has been looking forward to his visit and performing at this unique venue.”

Stephen Higgins, Managing Director - Racing and Events, said, ‘We are disappointed for our racegoers and for all of the Lionel Richie fans. However, we can still look forward to a day of racing.’

Ticketholders will be entitled to 15 compensation against their ticket purchase. Those with Golden Circle tickets will be entitled to 25 compensation. However, ticketholders can still enjoy a fantastic day’s racing on the second day of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend featuring two Group races.

The White Room After Party will not go ahead after racing, and a full refund will be offered on these tickets.  Tickets should be posted to the racecourse as directed below.

Compensation Policy for Ticketholders
All ticketholders are encouraged to enjoy the raceday on Saturday. Attending the raceday will not affect their compensation. To receive compensation all tickets must be posted, with a covering letter including full contact and booking details to the racecourse and compensation will be processed.
