First acts announced for WOMAD World Festival

De La Soul, Tinariwen and Bellowhead among the acts revealed today

The wraps are off and the line-up for this summer's WOMAD has just been announced. This year will mark the festival's ninth gathering in the glorious Wiltshire countryside and thirty-third  festival in the UK.
Everyone's favourite daisy-age rappers De La Soul will be making their first-ever appearance, hip-hop heroes ever since that epochal debut album 3 Feet High And Rising more than 25 years ago. They are set to headline the Friday night.

WOMAD veterans return in the form of Tinariwen. The story of these freedom fighters turned rock'n'rollers is one of music's most captivating tales of the last decade - a heady journey that's taken them from the Sahara's lonesome plains to performing at the World Cup opening ceremony.
From a very different tradition are Bellowhead who will be bringing a strong dose of theatricality to the folk music canon, the 11-piece's virtuoso playing and gripping songs make them a great live act.

Other acts confirmed are 47Soul, Acholi Machon, Aurelio, Banda Magda, Dona Onete, Eska, Ester Rada, Kim Churchill, L’Hijâz’Car, Molotov Jukebox, Orange Blossom, Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp, Osaka Monaurail, Sagapool, Sona Jobarteh and Swindle.

For those early birds arriving on site ahead of the rest, Thursday night offers some exclusive treats with Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar, Kala Chetena Kathakali Company plus a curtain-raising collaboration between local Malmesbury schoolchildren and some top-flight musicians – this year the latter are represented by Tomorrow’s Warriors, whose massed horns evangelically push the gospel of jazz.
The Taste the World stage returns as will the Dancing Tent with early-bird yoga sessions, sabar dance lessons and Japanese taiko drumming. World Rhythms allows you to drum with the best drummers from around the world and listen to the musicians very own inspirational stories.
The World of Wellbeing will offer treatments, therapies, discussions, workshops and spaces to simply get away from the bustle of the main arena. The WOMAD spa, complete with treatments, spa pools, sauna, boundless showers and a cocktail bar also returns.
WOMAD’s World of Art will once more see invited artists use the entire festival site as a giant canvass on which to create specially commissioned pieces and the World of Words to debate and discuss the things that matter in the world we live in.

The dedicated kids zone World of Kids will return and the Sunday afternoon much-loved Children’s Parade will once again wind its way through the festival site.

Tickets are on sale now from the WOMAD Website

WOMAD returns to Charlton Park, Malmesbury on the 23 to the 26 July 2015
