First artists for Norway’s Oya Festival revealed

Lana Del Rey, Mac DeMarco, Vince Staples, Angel Olsen and more confirmed

Norway’s Øya Festival has unveiled the first wave of artists that will perform at its 2017 edition which runs from August 8th to the 12th at Tøyenparken, Oslo’s lush, scenic city park.

Øya 2017 will be headlined by Lana Del Rey who is making her very first appearance at the festival. Her distinct musical vision that was presented with the albums ‘Born To Die’ (2012), ‘Ultraviolence’ (2014) and ‘Honeymoon’ (2015) earned her both widespread critical acclaim and a huge commercial success the world over. Most recently, she featured on two tracks on The Weeknd’s new album ‘Starboy’.

Also confirmed are Mac DeMarco, Sweden’s raucous rock ‘n’ rollers The Hellacopters and tastemaker favourites and recent newcomers Angel Olsen, Vince Staples and Car Seat Headrest.

Norwegian talent includes Jenny Hval who is set to perform a very special show at the festival, Nils Bech is now gaining international traction after releasing his album ‘Echo’ on DFA Records, Charlotte Dos Santos, who recently unveiled the new track ‘Watching You’, and recent Island Records signing Sigrid.

Beyond the music, Øya seeks to operate in the most environmentally sound approach possible. The entire event is powered by sustainable electricity, while all of the festival waste is hand-sorted and recycled which means that 70% of it can be reused. Most of the food served at Øya is organic and locally sourced from small scale providers, and all caterers are required to deliver a menu that’s at least 50% meat-free.

Tickets are on sale for 2684 NOK (approximately £250) for a five-day pass and 949 NOK (approximately £89) for a day ticket. Available here
