Margate's By The Sea Festival announce more acts

British Sea Power, Marika Hackman, Dream Wife and more added

By The Sea has has previously announced Everything Everything (Friday), Metronomy (Saturday) and The Libertines (Sunday) as its headliners for 2017, the second wave of artists has now been confirmed.

One of Britain’s biggest cult bands and certainly one of its most eclectic, British Sea Power visit By The Sea on the back of their recent album ‘Let The Dancers Inherit The Party’. Also confirmed is the uncompromising and uninhibited Marika Hackman, whose current album ‘I’m Not Your Man’ tackles big issues around femininity, sexual identity, millennial ennui and the perils of being young in a fast-paced world.

Visceral, flamboyant and confrontational, it’s no surprise that London sextet HMLTD are being heralded as “a mix of music hall, spaghetti westerns, gay clubs, hedonism, iconoclasm, David Bowie, Talking Heads and Adam Ant rolled into one exhilarating whole” (Dazed). Also hotly tipped are Dream Wife, whose razor sharp pop tunes and fiery punk attitude has inspired chaotic scenes while on tour with Sleigh Bells and The Kills.

Girl Ray’s songs document the dramas of adolescence with a wit and wistfulness far beyond their years. Their By The Sea show will follow the August 4th release of their debut album ‘Earl Grey’. Formed in Bahrain, multi-instrumentalist quintet Flamingods are informed by the imagery, music and concepts of far-flung cultures as well as experimental, psych, rock and pop artists.

Deep Throat Choir are an all-female singing collective formed by Luisa Gerstein, previously a member of Landshapes and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Their intricate vocal harmonies are showcased on their debut album ‘Be OK’ which combines their originals alongside arrangements of songs by artists including Electrelane, Wildbirds and Peacedrums, MK and Amy Winehouse. Finally, former Let’s Wrestle guitarist Wesley Gonzalez has just released his debut solo album ‘Excellent Musician’. It evokes everything from mid 70s singer-songwriters such as Emitt Rhodes, the soul and funk stylings of Sly and The Family Stone and Donny Hathaway, and pioneering early electronic music from White Noise and Mort Garson.

By The Sea is located in Dreamland, Margate – a town that’s currently experiencing a rejuvenation inspired by a growing local cultural industry and that’s just an 80 minute train journey away from London. Dreamland’s storied history stretches all the way back to the 19th century and continued throughout the golden age of the British seaside town.

Dreamland was recently re-launched after a major investment, which saw the site revamped and expanded with a focus on authentic vintage rides including a speedway, Wedgwood Tea Cups and the Magic Mouse which reflect its uniquely British heritage. Everyone who attends the festival can enjoy the rest of Dreamland’s many captivating attractions free of charge There’s even an intersection between the rides and the music with the return of DJ sets by the dodgems.

Tickets for By The Sea are now on general sale, early bird and first release sales are both sold-out.

By The Sea will return to Dreamland Margate amusement park on the 29th September to the 1st October 2017.
