V Festival Virgin Mobile Union stage line up announced

Richard Hawley, Guillemots, Sia, Echo And The Bunnymen, Siouxsie and many more now confirmed, plus ... Strongbow Bowtime Bar and Bacardi B-Live Arena line-ups revealed!

This summer, V Festival sees the welcome return of the Virgin Mobile Union stage. This year’s bill showcases the very best in freshly squeezed talent whilst seeing some old faces making a new return as solo artists.

Newly added to V Festival are:

Guillemots
With their wide-eyed approach to making music, this naturally ebullient four piece will take to the stage at V Festival with freshly squeezed tracks from their second album ‘Red’. Guillemots sole purpose is to restore a sense of boldness and adventure to the increasingly safe world of pop music.

Sia
With her emotive vocal performances and captivating song writing, the Australian born former Londoner, Sia Furler, is a remarkable and unique artist who is a welcome addition to this year’s V line-up. Her deeply seductive brand of dysfunction has seen her quietly collect a legion of dedicated fans including an enviable number of A-list luminaries.

Young Knives
Constantly evolving, consistently shifting, always appealing, Young Knives will join the line-up at V Festival this year. A muscular clatter of pulsing guitars, head spinning percussive thuds and harmonic, brotherly vocals provide the backbone to a rich throng of giddy, excited ideas and ageless, wry lyrical themes.

“Once again the line-up has raised the bar. The calibre of this year’s talent on the Virgin Mobile Union stage is as strong as always. With faces old and new, V Festival continues to show its support for new. It was only a couple of years ago that the Young Knives won the ‘Road to V’ competition and now they return high up on the Virgin Mobile Union stage bill. We’re thrilled to have them back as an established band.”
V Festival Director, Bob Angus

Siouxsie
After 17 years of glorious records, Siouxsie, the true outsider’s outsider, will take to the stage solo at this year’s V Festival. The legacy that is Siouxsie returned last year with her debut solo album, Mantaray, which was indisputably one of the albums of 2007.

Will Young
Two Brit awards, several successful tours, three top selling albums, four number one singles, over seven million record sales AND a successful venture into films, Will Young’s career is again opening up to new challenges. With the immanent arrival of his fourth album, Will is set to make his debut at this year’s V Festival.

Little Man Tate
Sheffield four piece, Little Man Tate, are back with a slightly darker and more contemporary second album. The hedonistic band joins this year’s line-up and are set to unleash their solid gold indie-disco hits at V Festival.

The Long Blondes
V Festival will welcome The Long Blondes to the stage. The band are moving, effortlessly and upwards, to those giddy stratospheres that are rightfully theirs. Their new album ‘Couples” sees them stepping, dancing, falling and laughing into brace new worlds.

Tom Baxter
With his irresistible live shows English singer-songwriter, Tom Baxter, joins the V line-up this summer.

Roots Manuva
Roots Manuva is the sound of summer. With his freewheeling, reggae drenched form Mr Manuva comes blazing back into action and is set to raise the temperature at this summer’s V Festival.

Drive-By Truckers
The bunch of extroverts that are Drive-By Truckers join this year’s V Line-up. Stylistically, they run the gamut from old-timey sounding country to a heavy R&B influence.

The Dykeenies
Scotland’s best-kept secret The Dykeenies are set to bring their swivel-hipped dancefloor classics to the V stage this summer. The Glaswegian band is guaranteed to steal your hearts with dastardly panache and start your hips moving in an altogether unwholesome manner. There will soon be no escaping their gleaming new wave majesty.

Goldie Lookin Chain
The Newport legend continues as Goldie Lookin Chain are set to wax lyrical at this year’s V.
With hits like ‘Guns Don’t Kill People Rappers Do’, ‘Half Man Half Machine’ ‘You Knows I loves You’ and the classic ‘and Your Mother’s Got a Penis’ GLC are set to be a crowd pleaser.

Paul Heaton
Old Red Eyes, as he used to be, is back. After 19 years with The Beautiful South Paul Heaton is a man energised, liberated, and unleashed. With his new band Heaton has embarked on a solo career. He is harder, rockier, louder than of yore. The sweet melodies are still there and look set to light up V Festival this summer.

Jack McManus
Fresh from touring with Scouting For Girls, V Festival welcomes mad-haired Jack McManus to the stage. Inspired by the classic songwriters of the seventies, 23 year old Jack writes songs like an old soul. His debut album, Either Side of Midnight, is an instantly accessible album of gorgeous memorable tunes and is set to attract fans at this year’s festival.

Tokyo Police Club
With short sharp bursts of nonchalant arrogance, Tokyo Police Club are fresh from touring with Cold War Kids and Bloc Party and look set to tease V fans with their latent talent.

Passenger
Booker prize nominee Mike Rosenberg joint forces with BAFTA award-winning film and TV soundtrack composer Andrew Phillips to form Brighton based band Passenger. The five-piece band will take to the V stage with pop songs from their debut album Wicked Man’s Rest.

Beth Rowley
26 year old British singer-songwriter, Beth Rowley, will make her debut at V Festival this year. Fusing a vintage sound and sensibility with a joyous, contemporary edge Beth Rowley is essential listening for 2008.

Noah and the Whale
With their energetic live shows and carefully crafted folk melodies, Noah and the Whale join this year’s line-up at V Festival.

The Like
Guitar rock band, The Like, is set to storm the stage at V this year with their irresistible collective personality and their stunning and emotionally complex pop songs.

Sam Beeton
Sam Beeton is a singer- songwriter with a rare talent. The classic pop singer will be bringing his bright catchy tunes to this year’s V-Festival. This 19 year old from the Midlands has the uncanny ability to make even the most personal of emotions sound wholly universal.

“Virgin Mobile is proud to be back waving the flag for new talent for the fifth year. As Virgin Mobile takes over the tent, prepare yourself for a real treat as the Virgin Mobile Union tent gives fans the ultimate festival experience. This year you can grab a drink at the bar and listen to Virgin Mobile Union’s cracking line-up of DJs, recharge your phone in dedicated recharge points, or if you need a breather, the Virgin Mobile Union Garden will be a sanctuary away from the festival madness. Make all your friends envious as Virgin Mobile is giving its customers exclusive access to rub shoulders with this year’s line-up in the union garden VIP area where Virgin Mobile customers can also pick up a voucher for two free pints of Strongbow for you and a friend, which can be used around the festival, on us.”
Paul Shulver, Virgin Mobile

In its tenth year, the Strongbow Bowtime Bar, (previously Strongbow Cider House), has stacked up yet another blinding line-up that will most certainly whet your appetite. Exciting breakthrough Live Acts, plus the hottest DJ talent playing a mix of house & hip-hop beats, will be the order of the day as the Bowtime Bar hits the V Festivals this summer.

The Bacardi-B Live Arena makes a welcome return at V Festival this summer, with party beats throughout the weekend to lure in even the most hardcore festival fans, enticing them with sets from world class musicians, percussionists and vocalists.
