The Happy Mondays for Wychwood

The band will headline ‘The Independent Stage’ on the Saturday

Wychwood Festival have confirmed that legendary Salford band the Happy Mondays have been booked to perform as the Saturday headliner at festival's sixth annual event.  Wychwood’s Saturday ‘Independent Stage’ line-up is a traditionally indie/alternative affair and with the Mondays heading the bill in 2010 that tradition is set to continue with a vengeance.

The Mondays were discovered by Manchester pop impresario Tony Wilson at a battle of the bands contest held at his Hacienda nightclub. Their first album, Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out), debuted in 1987 and was produced by John Cale. This was followed by Bummed in 1988, produced by Martin Hannett, Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches in 1990 produced by Paul Oakenfold and Yes Please! in 1992, produced by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth. By the late 1980s, the Happy Mondays were a pivotal part of the Manchester music scene and personified rave culture.

Wychwood is a family orientated green friendly festival and has gone from strength to strength over the last five years fast becoming one of the UK’s most successful independent arts event of the summer season.

Adult weekend tickets are priced at £110, Youth concessions (16-18yrs) available at £85 (full weekend) and 10-15yrs weekend tickets for £50. Under 10’s go for free with each adult ticket allowing two free under 10’s.

Wychwood is taking place at Cheltenham Racecourse from the 4-6 June
