Kora at WOMAD
Kora, Four Maori brothers and their adopted "bro" took over the WOMAD site in the afternoon drawing a huge and very appreciative crowd. A great festival surprise was in store as these dub-heavy guys set the place alight with their blend of funk, backbeat, rock and blues. They gripped the crowd which grew as word got round that something special was going down on the Open Air stage, despite the high temperatures Kora had everybody jumping around. The performance was nothing short of spectacular, Kora knows a thing or two about how to connect with a crowd, the strong Maori influence made Kora a new and quite unique experience. Their newly released album has gone platinum in their homeland, which might give you a clue as to just how good these multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist and interchangeable guys really are, and with the Red Arrows fly past toward the end of the set we had perfection in the sun - it was over all too soon but if you missed these guys they will be back in the UK in the Autumn so keep an eye out for Kora.
