Texas were always a band who were an excellent live act in the 90’s but over the years the hits started to fade and Sharleen Spiteri started a solo career. The band have now re-formed albeit with a new line-up but still fronted by the charismatic Spiteri.
Besides the UK one of their other big markets was France so it was no surprise to see them appearing at the Nice Jazz Festival. When you hear all the hits played together you forget how many hits they actually had.
Ms Spiteri was on good form. She said she had been asked by a journalist before the gig why they were playing at a jazz festival, her reply was “because we are very good!” she told the audience.
Summer Sun sounded even better under the hot sultry night in Nice and seemed very appropriate. Only one new song, Detroit City was played which suggested that the band may be recording again soon. A cover of Al Green’s Tired of Being Alone and as an encore of River Deep, Mountain High showed where their pop-soul influences came from.
