I really like Colston Hall as a venue, especially with the new foyer facilities but they really do need to make it clear ,when taking our money, exactly what the seating arrangements are.

Outdated. Seating poor angles for viewing. Acoustics not brilliant. Seems unchanged from the 70's. Had to Queue for ages for the only gents toilets situated downstairs (Told it was the only one until got fed up and went looking around the building (found another upstairs to right, might have been staff toilets for all I know, well hidden and little sign posted.)

Not too bad - comfy, well laid out, acoustics not brilliant, but not helped by the Mix and volume on the night.

Just got back form seeing YAZOO in the Colston Hall, Had seats in row H, 8 rows back from the stage and had amazing views of both Vince & Alison which was just amazing. A little pointless having seats when everyone wants to get up & dance but atleast it allows you to have a bit of person space to express yourself to the music! LOL

Venue as with James offers a great atmosphere & accostics, but as I have said before dont expect Hitech - Coz it aint!

YAZOO were amazing first time Ive seen them & they were worth every penny Alison is such a talented soulful singer & Vince a Synth pop genius - Bloody Awesum!

Hope this review entertains & helps, Regards Aid & Mandy (Newport)

Recently saw JAMES in Colston Hall. Hadn't been there since Deacon blue in 1990, Forgotten how old fashioned but atmospheric the place was. If your looking for a Modern hightech venue forget it! This is your old fashion panto & stage venue. The acoustics are fab even at the very back in row U, And make the whole Musical experience great. However the draw backs to be aware of are: No Airconditioning meaning over 2000 sweaty people dancing around to close to midnight makes it a very hot sultry enviroment to be in, Also if you are a Above Average size person you may have trouble with the small seats, Tall people may suffer with limited leg room also. However if your a brave soul who can enjoy there favorite band even in a confined space give the Hall a go.

We'll be back in June for Yazoo, Hope to see you there! ! !

Van Morrison -good band but he fails to connect with his audience-He doesn't even try. Good music but felt as if we were listening to a CD-bit souless- he walked off stage at the end ,no encore and house cleared in 5 minutes!

Why do some people not like the name of the Colston Hall?

So warming to the Colston Hall - a small, intimate venue witha good sound, nearby parking - just what you want really. Low on facilities but still a great venue where you can get to see and hear the performer really well.

Appears to be well run, easy to find and getting in and out of the venue is quite easy.

Our Comments

Trenchard Street car park is situated just behind the hall. It's a council owned venue and a listed building which makes access in some parts for people with disabilities limited. However, they do offer assistance and a non disabled carer will be admitted free of charge, they also offer dedicated members of staff to assist.
